Neutour in Malham Cove von Steve McClure

Dem 46-jährigen Briten Steve McClure gelang es im Juni letzten Jahres sich mit „Rainman“ (9b) in Malham Cove (Großbritannien) ein Denkmal zu setzen. Nun fügt er dem Gebiet mit „‚The Reign Is Over“ eine neue Toproute hinzu.  In nun mittlerweile über 15 Jahren konnte Steve mit den Erstbegehungen  „Batroute“ (8c), „Batman“ (9a) , „Rainman“ (9b), „Rainshadow“ (9a), „Overshadow“ (9a+) und „Batshadow“ (8c+) der Wand seinen Stempel aufdrücken. Ob er nun wirklich „das Zepter abgibt“, wie der Routenname verspricht, bleibt abzuwarten.

Steve meint zu seiner Neutour: „New mega route at Malham. I didn’t expect to get success after just 2 days of effort this season. It’s actually a bit fast – I wanted more… But it came with the awesome weather, and hence the name; ‚The Reign Is Over‘, 8c most likely. Note the spelling, and this marks the end of the affair I’ve had on the walls below, with a single section of rock ruling over my life for 15 years! These routes; Batroute, Batman, Rainman, Rainshadow, Overshadow and Batshadow, have reigned over me, pushed me and forced me to be my best. Its been a good run. Now I’ve broken out. Though you watch – I’ll be back, I’m sure I spotted a line of holds out there somewhere….“
