The two Italians Santi Padros and Giovanni Andraino opened on the 4th of january the new sixty meter long mixed route „Stella Cadente – Sternschnuppe“ (M8. WI 5) on Campolongo Pass (South Tyrol). According to Giovanni, it is a modern mixed tour, secured with spit and hook. The first rope pitch is technically difficult with an exposed cross aisle, then there is an overhang which leads to a tape in the second pitch and finally ends with a short but quite difficult ice candle. The route is located at an altitude of 2550 m in the lower part opposite Piz da Lech on the east face. One should pay attention to the snow conditions, especially on the final slope. As an alternative, you can use the „Boe“ gondola or the „Vallon“ chairlift and get there in 25 minutes. From sunrise to 11 a.m. on January 4th, the route is exposed to the sun, so caution is advised.
