The Basque-born Eder Lomba, and“new english man“, manages the second ascent of „Rainman“ (9b) in the British „high-end climbing crag „Malham Cove“, the legendary and probably most difficult route on the British Isle. Eder spent 46 days on the route.
Eder Lomba, many will now be asking themselves, yes that’s right. The young Basque was able to increase his difficulty level from 6a to 9b within seven years and was able to score the two „9a“ routes „Rainshadow„ and „Batman“ also in Malham Cove before „Rainman“. He skipped the 9a+ grade.
In 2017, the English first ascent legend Steve McClure managed the first ascent of „Rainman“ (9b) after more than seven years of projecting. The British climber, who was already 46 years old at the time, needed 128 attempts before he managed the redpoint ascent. The route combination starts in „Raindogs“ (8a), then shares the crux with „Rainshadow“ (9a) and ends at the lower off of the „Bat-Route“ (8c).
