Chris Sharma’s „Black Pearl“ is, according to him, his most difficult DWS (Deep Water Soloing) route to date. Like his routes „Alasha“ and „Es Pontàs„, it is located on the shores of the Balearic island of Mallorca. Chris tried the route for four years until he managed to climb it dry.

“It represented a progression in deep water soloing for me, and it was a very personal goal that I’ve pursued over the last four years,” says Sharma. “It’s one of a handful of routes that have been on my bucket list.”

The US American Chris Sharma can still do extremely difficult climbing. At the beginning of the year, he climbed his most difficult route to date with his first ascent of „Sleeping Lion“ (9b+).

His route „Es Pontàs“ from 2006 was long regarded as one of the most difficult routes in the world and has since been repeated by Jernej Kruder, Jan Hojer and Jakob Schubert. The latter massively downgraded the route to grade 9a.
