And once again, a woman with strong nerves was able to get an ascent of „Prinzip Hoffnung“ X/X+ (8b/+) or E9/10 on the Bürser Platte in Vorarlberg (Austria). After Barbara Zangerl (2014), Nadine Wallner and the British Madeleine „Maddy“ Cope (both 2019), Lena Marie Müller (2020), Luisa Deubzer (2022) and now Anna Hazelnutt, the sixth female redpoint ascent of the route.

It’s a dream climb and I’m just SO FRIKKIN HAPPY IT WENT!!!!!

There’s been so much uncertainty through this projecting process, from my shoulder injury (and @tompaulrandall ‘s finger injury) beforehand, to unlucky weather, to personal doubts of whether or not I could do it in such a limited time frame, to genuine fears of falling at the start and/or on the loooong runout (plot twist, I took the FULL WHIP and survived haha), this climb was filled to the brim with new challenges to work through! Tom, you’re up

The route „Prinzip Hoffnung“ is one of the most famous trad routes in Europe. Beat Kammerlander climbed the 40-metre-long route clean again in 2009, after having first climbed it with bolts ten years earlier. So far, the extremely small-riffed route has seen over 15 ascents, including Alex Luger, Jacopo Larcher, Fabi Buhl, Babsi Zangerl, Michael Gunsilius, Christian Bindhammer, Nemuel Feurle, Michi Wohlleben, Nadine Wallner, Madeleine Cope, Luisa Deubzer, Lena Marie Müller, Johannes Ingrisch and now Anna Hazelnutt. Due to the sun-exposed, small-pocketed wall, ascents are actually only possible in winter at cold temperatures.
