With Joe Brown is the last night one of the best british climbers and alpinists died. With Don Whillans he formed a congenial team. She climbed together numerous difficult routes and first ascents in the United Kingdom, especially in Snowdonia and the Peak District. He was on the first ascenter of the Kangchendzönga (8586 m) in the Himalayas. In the summer of 1956, Brown also made the first ascent of the Muztagh Tower (7273 m) in the Karakorum with Tom Patey, John Hartog and Ian McNaught-Davis, and twenty years later in 1976 one of the first ascenter of the Trango Tower (6251 m) also situated in the Karakorum.

„It is with profound sadness that we have to share with you the passing of Joe Brown.

He left us peacefully at 10pm last night. He was at home with his family. We have been in contact with his wife Val this morning to pass on our love and condolences and will share more information in line with his families wishes.

In our hearts, Joe will continue to climb evermore.“
